We learned about “los animales y sus habitats”, we did crafts and sang songs in Español ¡Buen trabajo chicos!
Many parents showed interest in the Spanish for Kids Courses which will begin next week. Please check the website for a description of the methodology, fees and hours. I am in the process of forming new groups.

Whatever your age, interest or needs with the Spanish language, do not hesitate to call me or e-mail me. Returning and new students are all welcomed.

Newsletter Spanish4you May

Hola amigos de Spanish4you Canada.

BIENVENIDOS los nuevos estudiantes que se suman a la escuela de Español. Y bienvenido el buen tiempo (nice weather) en Canadá. Por fin hace calor!

Our last ENCUENTRO (meet-up) was a success …..TODO UN EXITO. Esmeralda Enrique and her Flamenco Company really delivered at the Fleck Dance Theatre. Son un grupo de bailarines y músicos muy talentosos. There will be more encuentros for sure. Next, we’ll be most likely in Burlington for a salsa class after una charla de café (talk over coffee). So, there will be something interesting for everyone that evening. I will soon begin the arrangements. We might even have a guest speaker come join us.

Some students are interested in getting extra material to improve their learning. You know that I often purchase from Librería Las Américas in Montreal and I get a 20 % discount through our school account.

Feel free to check their website: www.lasamericas.ca

I also love visiting Toronto Spanish Books from time to time. We held one ENCUENTRO at the place time ago. You can see pictures in my website. I love the cozy atmosphere at this bookstore….me encanta! A few students already signed up to the Toronto’s Spanish Books monthly newsletter: www.spanishbooks.ca

Regardless of whether you find something of interest and level-appropriate, it’s a nice way to be informed about publications in Spanish. And you can practice your español by reading the books synopsis. Una muy buena práctica!

I want to congratulate my younger students as well for the hard work they are doing. We celebrated “Día de la Tierra” (Earth Day) with an activity at the park; Some other students created their very own video blogs, which they shared in class. Excelente trabajo chicos!

And I welcome new kids who have recently joined the groups. Next Saturday May 9th I will be taking a few to Mississauga Valley Public Library for LA HORA DEL CUENTO (story telling by Veronica Ramirez). It will be our “ENCUENTRITO” .

Bueno amigos, esto es todo. Remember to join me on Facebook. I am always posting and reposting about events that happen in the city and celebrations and cultural events related to the Hispanic world. Like 5 de mayo that is coming soon. You are encouraged to share whatever information you think that can be of interest for our group.

Hasta el próximo encuentro,

Karina

Saludos de Spanish4you

Hola amigos de Spanish4you Canada. I hope you had a wonderful “día de la Amistad y los Enamorados”. We did a lot of activities on “San Valentín” the past week. We read how and when “San Valentín” is celebrated in “el mundo latino”, we learned many words related to “el Amor y la Amistad”, we looked at “tarjetas de San Valentín” and the young students at Spanish4you even created their own Valentines in “español” to share with family and friends. I will upload these activities to the website so that you all have a chance to practice and learn about it. I take this opportunity to thank you for the “flores”, “chocolates” and “tarjetas” that I’ve received. There’s a post with photos on our Facebook page. On this note, I encouraged you and your connections to “LIKE” Spanish4youCanada on Facebook. Through Facebook posts, I try to keep you updated of events in the city and local and international news related to “el mundo del español” .

It is “Día de la Familia” today, I do hope you can spend some enjoyable time with those that make a difference in your lives. I’d like to thank you for being part of the Spanish4you family, as well. GRACIAS for choosing us to Learn, Live and Share the Love for the Spanish Language.

This is a comic strip from Mafalda.

I will keep you posted of our next ENCUENTRO. Some of you wanted to dance TANGO. I’ll see if I can organize something. There will be a new Flamenco show by Esmeralda Enrique and her company this year. I will let you know about dates and venue. Some students have already expressed interest.

I leave you now with a quote by Pablo Neruda, Chilean poet and political activist, Nobel Prize in Literature 1971.

“Amar es un viaje con luz y con estrellas, un combate de relámpagos y dos cuerpos por una sola miel derrotados”

Newsletter October 2014 and next “Encuentro”

Hola amigos de Spanish4you Canada. I can’t believe we are approaching the end of the year. Time flies, “el tiempo vuela” as we say in Spanish, and what a good time to have a new “encuentro”, the space to socialize, get closer to the hispanic culture and practise our “español”. This time our “encuentro” will be held at “Taste of Colombia”, a cozy café in Oakville, on Sunday, November 23rd at 2:00 pm. Taste of Colombia offers a friendly atmosphere and serves the best Fair Trade coffee in town. Join me for a nice afternoon before my trip to Spain and feel free to invite relatives or friends. Remember that everyone is welcome at our “encuentros”. For those who were with Spanish4you but are not currently attending classes, this could be a great chance to reconnect. If you have been thinking about starting classes come and meet this group of Spanish enthusiasts.  Taste of Colombia is located at 67 Bronte Road, Unit #2, Oakville, ON

“Festival de Día de los Muertos” presented at Harbourfront Centre on Nov 08 and Nov 09, 2014.

http://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/festivals/index.cfm

If you want to learn more about this typical Mexican festivity “El día de los Muertos” check out the following video in Spanish. It’s a great listening activity and very easy to follow!!!

Don’t cry for me Argentina…. The acclaimed musical “Evita” is on at the Lower Ossington Theatre in Toronto: http://www.lowerossingtontheatre.com   With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, Evita concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, wife of Argentine president Juan Domingo Perón. The story follows Evita’s early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death. Evita, adored by many, hardly criticized by others has never left the collective consciousness of Argentines and has definitely become part of an international pop culture.

Evita, the musical runs until November 23rd. Thanks Aranka and Rick for the info!!!

To learn more on Evita’s life and legacy you can check the following website:

And you can listen to the Spanish version of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” (no llores por mi Argentina) by popular Argentine singer Nacha Guevara
